The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled illegal drug distribution enclaves in Itu Local Government Area, arresting 18 suspects during a targeted operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Uyo. She explained that operatives of the command stormed the hideouts of a drug syndicate in Oku Iboko and Mbak communities on Sunday.
“These locations are active drug distribution hubs; they are also fueling criminal activities in the area,” she said.
According to the police spokesperson, officers recovered a substantial quantity of suspected illicit drugs during the raid.
“Preliminary findings reveal that the hideouts were being used as distribution points for narcotics, a substance that is contributing to youth delinquency, violent crimes, and other social vices.
“Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network and apprehend additional collaborators,” John said.
She warned individuals involved in drug trafficking and related criminal activities to desist or face legal consequences.
Reaffirming the command’s resolve to curb criminality, John stated, “We shall continue to intensify intelligence-driven raids across the state to dismantle criminal hideouts.”
She also called on community leaders and residents to support security efforts by providing credible and actionable intelligence.
“Those who choose to undermine the peace and safety of Akwa Ibom should be prepared for swift and decisive action,” she said.
The police command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state through sustained enforcement operations.
