The Kwara State Police Command has recovered a Toyota Matrix reported stolen from a parking space in Ilorin, following the deployment of tracking technology.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the vehicle was recovered later the same day along the Ilorin–Jebba Road.

According to the statement, the theft was reported on April 27, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. at the Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin. The vehicle had earlier been stolen around 11:00 a.m. from Mandate Market.

Police operatives responded swiftly by activating an integrated tracking and immobilisation system connected to the vehicle’s security device. This enabled real-time location tracking and remote shutdown of the engine, facilitating its recovery.

The vehicle was eventually traced to the Jebba Expressway axis, where it was found abandoned by the roadside. Investigations revealed that the suspects had attempted to conceal the vehicle’s identity by altering its registration number, while the original plate was discovered nearby.

The police said the recovered vehicle has been secured at the SCID in Ilorin as investigations continue, adding that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to adopting technology-driven and intelligence-led strategies to combat crime and enhance public safety across the state.
