President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was conveyed to the National Assembly on Thursday, according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office in Oyo State.
Described as a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert, Tegbe brings over three decades of experience across both public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
He currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he coordinates development cooperation between Nigeria and China, in line with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation objectives.
According to the presidency, Tegbe has also been actively involved in Nigeria’s power sector reforms, working with key agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
The statement noted that his nomination is expected to strengthen ongoing reforms in the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investments in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that, if confirmed, Tegbe would leverage his expertise to drive meaningful improvements in Nigeria’s electricity sector and deliver better outcomes for citizens.
