Olufemi Hafeez Oyetola has withdrawn from the race for the Osun Central Senatorial District seat under the All Progressives Congress, saying his decision was taken in the interest of party unity and stability.
In a letter dated May 18, 2026, addressed to the Osun State chairman of the APC, Oyetola formally announced his withdrawal from the party’s senatorial contest, expressing appreciation to supporters, particularly youths across Osun Central, who purchased the nomination form on his behalf.
He described their support as a remarkable show of confidence in his leadership and said the gesture would remain one of the most significant moments of his political journey.
According to him, the decision to step down came after extensive consultations and the intervention of party leaders, whose counsel he said influenced his final position.
Oyetola noted that although the decision was difficult, he chose to prioritise the collective interest of the party over personal ambition, stressing that loyalty to the APC requires members to support actions that strengthen unity and improve electoral chances.
He thanked party faithful, stakeholders, and young supporters who backed his aspiration, assuring them that his commitment to the ideals of the APC remains unchanged.
The former aspirant also urged his supporters and political associates to remain calm and continue to support the leadership of the party, describing his withdrawal as a sacrifice made for cohesion within the APC.
He added that stepping down from the contest does not signal the end of their shared political aspirations but reflects discipline and dedication to the party’s long-term success in future elections.
