Several passengers were injured on Monday morning in a road accident involving a Honda vehicle and two commercial tricycles along Ipaja Road in Lagos.

The crash, which occurred around 8:50 a.m. at the Federal Bus Stop, involved a Honda car with registration number KTU 921 JY and left many victims with varying degrees of injuries.

Eyewitnesses said the female driver of the Honda vehicle was allegedly speeding when she attempted to avoid a sweeper said to be working with the Lagos Waste Management Authority.

According to accounts from the scene, the vehicle reportedly struck the sweeper before swerving across the road and crashing into two tricycles on the opposite lane.

Sources said about 10 passengers aboard the tricycles sustained injuries in the incident, with some suffering serious wounds while others escaped with minor injuries.

It was gathered that the injured victims were initially taken to a nearby private hospital for emergency treatment before some were later transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for further medical attention.

Security operatives, including police officers from the Gowon Division, neighbourhood watch officials and personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, were seen at the scene controlling traffic and coordinating rescue operations.

Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
