The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug traffickers and recovered large quantities of hard drugs, including Tramadol, Codeine, Rohypnol and MDMA, in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.

The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the spread of illicit substances in the state.

According to the statement, operatives of the Special Enquiry Unit on stop-and-search duty intercepted a Mercedes truck with registration number KRV 837 ZN at the First Niger Bridge Head, Asaba, on June 3, 2026.

The truck was driven by a 47-year-old suspect, Obinna Nwosu, from Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, who reportedly claimed he was transporting plumbing materials.

However, a thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a large cache of suspected controlled substances concealed within the truck.

Police said the recovered items included 13,000 sachets of 100mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of 225mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of Swinol, 300 sachets of Rohypnol, 60 sachets of Codeine Phosphate tablets and 100 tablets of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as “Molly.”

The suspect was taken into custody, while investigations have commenced to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged drug trafficking network.

In a separate operation carried out on the same day, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected drug distribution centre in Alegbo Community, Owa-Alero, Ika North East Local Government Area.

Two suspects, identified as Henry Edward and Okwudili Kingsley, were arrested during the raid.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the duo allegedly operated a local drug distribution network within the community.

Items recovered from the suspects included five gallons of fermented cannabis mixture, popularly known as “Monkey Tail,” as well as other suspected illicit substances.

The police said both suspects and the exhibits remain in custody as investigations continue.

Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against drug trafficking and other forms of organised crime across the state.

Oyeniyi warned that the proliferation of illicit drugs remains a major driver of criminal activities, including cultism, armed robbery and kidnapping, and urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

He also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant, stressing that community cooperation is vital to dismantling criminal networks and improving security across Delta State.
