The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially named former Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement confirms that Amaechi will run alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the party’s presidential ticket.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who said the decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, as well as representatives from across the country’s geopolitical zones.
According to the party, Amaechi emerged as the preferred choice after finishing as runner-up in the ADC presidential primary and receiving broad support from members nationwide.
ADC described the Atiku-Amaechi partnership as more than a political arrangement, saying it brings together two experienced political figures with the leadership capacity to address Nigeria’s current challenges and drive national development.
The party highlighted Amaechi’s long record in public service, noting that he served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly before completing two terms as governor of the state.
It also pointed to his tenure as Minister of Transportation, during which he oversaw major transportation and rail infrastructure initiatives.
According to the party, Amaechi’s experience across both legislative and executive roles makes him well-positioned to support the administration if elected.
ADC further argued that the former governor’s political influence in the South-South and across Southern Nigeria, combined with his coalition-building experience, strengthens the ticket ahead of the election.
The party said the Atiku-Amaechi combination reflects what it described as a national ticket capable of bridging regional and political divides while offering voters an alternative focused on governance, economic growth, security, and national unity.
ADC called on party members, coalition allies, civil society groups, youth organisations, women leaders, and Nigerians to support the ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The party expressed confidence that the partnership would strengthen its coalition and position it to compete strongly in the next general election.
