Abdulbasit Olalekan Abubakar has been inaugurated for another term as the Global President of the Osun State University Alumni Association (OSUAA), Osogbo.
Abubakar and his recently elected global executives were inaugurated at a ceremony held at the University’s New Senate Chamber.
In his inaugural address, Comrade Abubakar pledged a bigger transformation and dedication to service.
He unveiled plans to expand the ongoing Alumni Hostel Project beyond the Osogbo Campus to other campuses of the University, while also paying tribute to students and alumni who lost their lives in a recent road accident, particularly Sulaiman, a Linguistics and Communication Studies alumnus who returned to pursue a Law degree before his untimely death at the 400-level.
“This term will bring bigger and better transformation to our Association. We shall expand the ongoing projects, initiate new ones and ensure an inclusive Association that is rooted in our ideology and creed as products of UNIOSUN.”
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, reflected on the University’s remarkable journey from its humble beginnings to becoming a globally recognised multi-campus institution. He noted that despite doubts surrounding its establishment, the University has grown into a reputable centre of excellence with graduates making significant impacts across various sectors.
Professor Adebooye highlighted the quality of the University’s products, citing the commendation recently received by a young medical doctor trained at the institution for exhibiting professionalism comparable to that of an experienced consultant. He attributed such successes to strategic investments, including the Folorunsho Alakija Research Medical Facility. The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and urged them to continue supporting the University’s developmental agenda.
Delivering the keynote address, Ambassador Isa Niniola, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Protocol, commended the University’s impressive growth and encouraged the new leadership to collaborate effectively with management in advancing the vision of a modern and innovative university.
The event also featured a transition within the Board of Trustees as the outgoing Chairman formally handed over leadership documents to the new Chairman, Rev. Dr. Joshua Ayorinde. In his acceptance speech, Rev. Dr. Ayorinde pledged to work closely with the Global Executive Council to strengthen the Association and sustain its developmental strides.
Other members of the inaugurated executive council include Akinlade Boluwatife Akinade as Vice President; Azeez Uthman Adewale as General Secretary; Arasanyin Azeezat as Assistant General Secretary; Salami Adijat Yetunde as Social Director; Gbadamosi Abdulwahab and Habib Abdulrasheed Opeyemi as Financial Directors; Dr. Jamiu Adedayo as Auditor General; and Oluwasegun Faleyimu (Mighty) as Public Relations Officer.
