The Ilobu Asake Development Union (IDU) has strongly condemned the recent outbreak of politically motivated violence in Ilobu, describing the incident as a tragic setback for peace and community coexistence.

In a press statement signed and released by National President, Professor Olufemi Saibu, the union expressed deep sorrow over the death of a young boy and injuries sustained by other residents during unrest that reportedly occurred between Friday, June 19 and Sunday, June 22.

The union described the loss as heartbreaking, noting that the child represented hope for a family and the future of the community. It stressed that no political ambition, contest, or affiliation should cost the life of any resident.

According to the statement, the violence has left emotional wounds that extend beyond the immediate victims and affected families. IDU said the incident reflects a broader challenge facing communities and warned against allowing politics to become a source of destruction rather than development.

While extending condolences to the bereaved family, the union also offered prayers for healing and speedy recovery for those injured.

IDU reaffirmed its belief that political participation should remain a peaceful democratic process centred on ideas and service, not violence. It called on political actors, community leaders, and residents to reject intimidation, lawlessness, and acts capable of escalating tensions.

The organisation also urged the Nigeria Police Force, security agencies, and relevant authorities to carry out a prompt, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident and ensure that anyone found responsible either directly involved or linked to the violence is brought to justice.

At the same time, the union cautioned against premature accusations or public labelling before investigations are concluded, insisting that justice must be pursued through due process.

The statement further commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and residents who worked to calm tensions and protect peace during the crisis. IDU also acknowledged the intervention and support of Osun State authorities in efforts to restore order.

As part of efforts to prevent future violence, the union announced plans to support peace dialogue among stakeholders, cooperate with security agencies, assist affected families, and intensify civic education focused on tolerance, non-violence, and respect for the rule of law.

The union ended its message with an appeal to all indigenes and residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to rebuilding trust and protecting the unity and progress of Ilobu.
