The Kogi State Police Command has expressed sympathy to members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, following a road accident that left several journalists injured.
The journalists were involved in the accident on Saturday while returning from an official assignment in Ekinrin-Adde after a truck reportedly rammed into their bus. The crash left some members with varying degrees of injuries.
Despite the impact of the accident, no lives were lost. The injured journalists were taken to a hospital in Lokoja, where they received medical treatment before being discharged on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oyiza Afusat, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, the command described the incident as unfortunate and extended its support to the victims.
“The Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Command, is deeply saddened by the unfortunate road accident involving our journalist colleagues in the state,” the statement read.
The commissioner said the command stands in solidarity with the injured journalists, their families and the entire media community.
“On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, PSC, mni, and all officers and men of the Command, we extend our heartfelt prayers and solidarity to the injured journalists, their families, and the entire media community in the state,” the statement added.

“We recognise and appreciate the sacrifices journalists make in the line of duty in keeping the public informed. The Command joins the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, and the good people of Kogi State in praying for the speedy and full recovery of all those affected,” the statement said.
