Spain booked their place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after producing a disciplined performance to defeat tournament favourites France 2-0 in Tuesday night’s semi-final at the Dallas Stadium.

The reigning European champions struck first in the 22nd minute when captain Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted a penalty to give La Roja the lead.

France, who had been among the favourites to lift the trophy, struggled to find a breakthrough despite enjoying spells of possession, as Spain’s defence stood firm throughout the encounter.

Spain doubled their advantage in the 58th minute through Pedro Porro, whose well-taken finish left the French side with a mountain to climb.

Les Bleus pushed for a response in the closing stages, but Spain remained organised at the back to preserve their clean sheet and secure a famous victory.

The result sends Spain into the World Cup final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between England and Argentina, scheduled for Wednesday.

For France, the defeat marks the end of their quest for a third FIFA World Cup title, while Spain move one step closer to adding the world crown to the European Championship they won in 2024.

The victory also underlines Spain’s impressive form throughout the tournament, with Luis de la Fuente’s side continuing their remarkable run as they chase their second World Cup title.
