The Kwara State Police Command has commenced a full-scale homicide investigation into the killing of a farmer, Azeez Garba, whose body was discovered on his farmland in Isin Local Government Area of the state.
Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and deploy all available investigative and intelligence resources to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
The directive was conveyed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
Condemning the incident, Adekimi described the killing as “cruel, senseless and unacceptable,” assuring residents that the police would do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to the statement, Garba’s lifeless body was found on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, the boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin communities in Isin Local Government Area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the farmer had left home for his farm but failed to return, prompting his family and local vigilantes to launch a search.
The police said his motorcycle was later found parked on the farm, while his body was discovered a short distance away with multiple machete wounds.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the gruesome murder of Mr. Azeez Garba,” the statement read.
The command noted that no suspect has been arrested but said investigators are pursuing all available leads.
“Investigators are working assiduously to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and ensure that all those connected with this heinous crime are identified and brought to justice,” the statement added.
The police assurance comes days after the deceased’s family appealed to security agencies to investigate the murder and prosecute those responsible.
Speaking earlier, Garba’s second daughter, Abdulazeez Rofiat, said her father left home for his cocoa farm but never returned. She explained that local hunters later found his body in a nearby bush after locating his motorcycle on the farm.
“We want those responsible for this terrible crime to be identified, arrested and prosecuted according to the law. My father deserves justice, and our family deserves answers. We will continue to seek justice until those responsible are held accountable,” she said.
