Businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of appreciation from the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, despite the personal sacrifices he said he made in support of the former Anambra State governor’s campaign.
Fayose made the remarks in a video released on Friday while responding to criticism that trailed his recent meeting with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
The businessman said he invested his personal resources in Obi’s presidential bid during the 2023 general election, including making his hotel available to supporters and participating in campaign-related activities, but claimed the former presidential candidate had never acknowledged his efforts.
“Do you know how much I spent during the last election? Do you know how much I spent on your Obi? I even gave you people my hotel, and I also joined the protest,” Fayose said.
He lamented that, despite his commitment to the Obidient movement, Obi had not reached out to thank him.
“Seyi is a good boy. He removed his cap and appreciated me. Has Obi ever come to greet me since I started campaigning? Has he ever said thank you? Did you people send me the work?” he asked.
Fayose also criticised some supporters of the Obidient movement, accusing them of placing unrealistic expectations on others instead of taking responsibility for driving political change.
“You are waiting for other people to liberate you when you can liberate yourselves,” he said.
The social commentator explained that his admiration for President Tinubu and his son does not prevent him from supporting politicians from other parties.
“I am a Yoruba man. I love Tinubu with all my heart, and I also love Seyi Tinubu. He is a good person,” he stated.
He added that he reserves the right to support any political candidate of his choice in future elections, including President Tinubu if he so decides.
“If I choose to, I can start campaigning for Tinubu because you people are not even worth it,” he added.
Fayose’s comments come days after a video of him singing “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand” alongside Seyi Tinubu went viral, prompting speculation that he had defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Responding to the backlash, Fayose dismissed the claims, insisting he remains loyal to the Obidient movement despite maintaining cordial relationships with members of the Tinubu family.
According to him, he recently spent time with Seyi Tinubu, socialite Cubana Chief Priest and other associates, where they discussed politics and national issues before ending the gathering with prayers.
“When I was leaving, Seyi insisted on walking me to my car. We prayed together, including praying for President Bola Tinubu. That does not mean I have joined the APC,” he explained.
Fayose maintained that he is “101 per cent Obidient,” stressing that politics should never destroy friendships or family relationships.
He also denied allegations that he received money to change his political allegiance, insisting that political differences should not breed hatred or personal animosity.
