The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the return of the senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, describing his decision to rejoin the party as timely, patriotic and a boost to its political strength ahead of future elections.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Osun State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, said Ajagunla’s return reaffirmed the PDP’s position as the preferred platform for politicians committed to the welfare and development of the people.
Bisi, who said he spoke on behalf of the party’s national leadership under the chairmanship of Hon. Abrahman Mohammed and the Osun State Working Committee, stated that the senator’s decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) reflected growing dissatisfaction within the opposition party.
“It is with immense joy that I welcome our brother, Distinguished Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, back to his political family. His return is not only a positive development to us but reassuring to thousands of our members and supporters who have remained steadfast in their belief that truth will always prevail over political expediency,” Bisi said.
According to him, Ajagunla’s return would reassure party members and supporters while strengthening the PDP’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
He noted that the senator remains the PDP’s senatorial candidate for Osun Central in the 2027 elections, adding that his political experience, grassroots support and influence would further enhance the party’s electoral prospects.
Bisi also referenced the recent defection of Hon. Rabiu Adesina, member representing Iwo State Constituency, from the APC, arguing that more politicians were leaving the party because of what he described as its lack of internal democracy and disregard for loyal members.
The PDP chairman alleged that the APC had abandoned democratic principles in favour of personal interests, claiming that many politicians who left the PDP for the APC had become disappointed with their experiences.
“If the APC were truly populated by democrats committed to public service, respected leaders and elected representatives would not be abandoning the party in succession after initial bait of deceit. Unfortunately, it has become a platform where loyalty is rewarded with neglect,” Bisi stated.
He urged other politicians who had previously left the PDP to emulate Ajagunla by returning to the party, assuring them of equal opportunities and a conducive atmosphere to contribute to its activities.
“There is no honour in remaining on a sinking ship. Those who genuinely have the interest of Osun State at heart should summon the courage to retrace their steps. Our doors remain open to all patriots who are prepared to join hands in building a more prosperous Osun,” Bisi said.
The PDP chairman further described Ajagunla’s return as significant at a time when stakeholders were mobilising support for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
He said the governor’s second-term bid on the Accord platform had received the endorsement of the Osun PDP following the internal crisis that prevented his renomination on the PDP platform.
Bisi expressed confidence that the collaboration between the returning senator and the party would strengthen efforts to sustain what he described as the Adeleke administration’s achievements in governance and development across the state.
