Nollywood star Funke Akindele rang in her birthday today with a heartfelt note of thanks to God, reflecting on the highs, lows, and lessons that have shaped her journey so far.
The actress and filmmaker took to social media on Monday to share a deeply personal message, crediting God’s faithfulness for carrying her through every phase of her life, the wins as much as the setbacks.
“Today is my birthday. My heart is full of gratitude to God for all He has done, all He is doing, and all that is still to come,” she wrote.
She described God as her constant “strength and shield,” saying that even in seasons where she fell short, she was given the grace to pick herself up, learn, and grow.
“Through every season, every lesson, every win, every mistake and every challenge, God has remained my strength and my shield,” she said. “Even in moments when I have fallen short, He has given me the grace to rise, learn, keep going and become better.”
For this new year, Akindele said her requests are simple good health, long life, peace, and the continued grace to walk in purpose.
But her prayer didn’t stop at herself. The filmmaker said she hopes her life and work keep creating ripple effects for others, opening doors and building up new talent along the way.
“I pray that my life continues to mean something beyond me,” she wrote. “That I can touch more lives, open more doors, nurture more talents, raise more stars and give others the opportunity to become everything God has called them to be.”
She rounded off her message with a pledge to keep giving back and evolving, hoping her journey continues to spur others toward their own dreams.
“May I never stop giving back. May I never stop growing. May my life remain a testimony, and may the way I live inspire others to believe, to dream and to keep going,” she wrote, before signing off with a simple, “Happy birthday to me.”
