The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Saviour Otu Adim, over the alleged murder of his six-year-old stepdaughter, Miss Goodness Ekpo Okon, in Bakassi Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, August 28, 2026.
Akata said the suspect was arrested following a report lodged by Mrs Itoro Udofia, who alleged that Adim assaulted the child, leading to her death.
He said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect had allegedly accused the deceased of being a witch before the incident.
“The Cross River State Police Command has arrested Saviour Otu Adim, male, aged 29 years, in connection with the alleged murder of his six-year-old stepdaughter, Miss Goodness Ekpo Okon,” Akata said.
According to the police spokesman, the incident was reported to the command on August 28, 2026, prompting the arrest of the suspect and commencement of investigation.
Akata said Adim was currently in police custody, while the remains of the deceased had been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.
He added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for further investigation.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to protect children and report cases of abuse to the appropriate authorities promptly.
He also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information or resorting to self-help, stressing the need to allow the relevant authorities to investigate the matter and ensure justice.
