The Primary Health Centre, Oke Gada, Ede, Osun State, has successfully performed its first-ever emergency Caesarean Section, resulting in the safe delivery of a 3.5 kilogramme baby boy.
The emergency procedure was carried out on Friday, August 28, 2026, by Dr. Ashafa Musa and his medical team, the baby was reported to be delivered at about 2:30 p.m. with the mother also in good condition.
The mother, Mrs. Rukayat, who commenced antenatal care at the PHC in May 2026, had been managed throughout her pregnancy at the facility, where a vaginal delivery had initially been anticipated.
However, the medical team later carried out an emergency Caesarean Section when the need for surgical delivery arose in order to ensure successful and safe delivery of the baby.
Speaking after the delivery, the father of the newborn, Mr. Adeniyi, expressed appreciation to Dr. Ashafa Musa and members of his team for their diligence, commitment and professionalism.
Mr. Adeniyi also commended the Osun State Government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke for its investment in the healthcare sector, particularly the upgrading of Primary Health Centres across the state.
He noted that the procedure would have cost the family hundreds of thousands of naira if it had been performed at a private hospital.
According to him, “A procedure of this nature would have cost us hundreds of thousands of naira in a private hospital, so we are grateful that my wife received the service free of charge here at the PHC.”
Reacting to the development, the Executive Secretary of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Sina Igbalaye, who visited the facility following the successful operation, commended Dr. Musa and other health officials for their dedication to duty.
Igbalaye expressed appreciation to Governor Adeleke for his continued support and investment in the state’s health sector, particularly the recent recruitment of health workers and the upgrading and strengthening of Primary Health Centres.
He said, “The successful emergency Caesarean Section at PHC Oke Gada, Ede, is another demonstration that the administration’s investment in primary healthcare is yielding positive results and providing residents with access to quality healthcare services closer to their communities.”
The executive secretary further reiterated the commitment of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board to sustaining quality healthcare delivery across the state while ensuring that residents, particularly women and children will have access to affordable and effective healthcare services.
