The National Youth Service Corps has extended the service year of 27 corps members serving in Osun State for violating the scheme’s regulations.
The Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Ekene Ita Kubiangha, disclosed this on Thursday during the Passing-Out Parade for members of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II who completed their mandatory national service.
Kubiangha also revealed that 31 corps members absconded from their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) during the service year, an offence that contravene the NYSC rules.
According to him, the extension of service for the affected corps members was part of the sanctions prescribed by the scheme for those who breached its regulations during their service year.
While congratulating the passing-out corps members, the coordinator urged them to carry the discipline, skills and experiences acquired during the national service into the next phase of their lives.
He particularly encouraged them to take advantage of the entrepreneurial skills gained through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, noting that such skills could help young Nigerians cope with the realities of the economy.
He said, “The end of the service year should mark the beginning of greater opportunities, responsibilities and service to humanity.”
Kubiangha also charged the corps members to remain responsible, disciplined and committed to contributing positively to their communities, urging them to apply the knowledge and experiences gained during the service year to their personal and professional development.
As part of activities marking the passing-out exercise, the coordinator conducted a monitoring visit to Boripe and Ifelodun Local Government Areas in the Ikirun Zone.
During the exercise, he inspected the corps lodge and assessed the welfare and safety of corps members, while also reminding them of the importance of maintaining the positive values acquired during their service.
The monitoring exercise was carried out alongside a representative of the NYSC Directorate Headquarters Monitoring Team, Oluwakayode Osinubi, and other principal officers of the NYSC in Osun State.
