The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused the factional National Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), of allegedly plotting a fresh takeover of motor parks across the state.
The party alleged that the purported move could trigger another round of violence and disrupt peace in Osun amid the ongoing crisis over control of motor parks.
The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the state chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande.
Akande claimed that reports from various motor parks identified MC Oluomo as being behind the alleged plan, allegedly working through Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, and what the party described as “disgruntled elements” within the Osun APC.
The Accord chairman further alleged that MC Oluomo had issued a new certificate of leadership to Asiri Eniba despite the tenure of the existing NURTW executive allegedly not having expired.
According to Akande, the alleged development was intended to frustrate the Osun State Government’s plan to establish a Park Management System for motor parks and garages across the state.
The allegations come days after Governor Ademola Adeleke ordered the suspension of NURTW activities and directed rival factions to vacate motor parks following the killing of Accord chieftain Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir, during a dispute over control of a motor park in Ile-Ife.
The party said the proposed Park Management System was aimed at preventing further clashes between rival transport union factions and restoring order in the state.
“The threat of factional warfare is still very much on ground, hence the strong support of all and sundry for the creation of a Park Management System which the state governor will announce in due course,” Akande said.
The party also alleged that the activities of Asiri Eniba, which it said were supported by MC Oluomo, could undermine the government’s efforts to restore peace.
“We therefore strongly frown at the illegal and violent activities of Mr Asiri Eniba, supported by Mr MC Oluomo, as a remnant of pre-election violence in Osun State, which should stop without further delay,” the statement read.
Accord urged President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to intervene and, according to the party, “call MC Oluomo to order.”
It further warned that MC Oluomo should be held accountable for any breakdown of law and order arising from the alleged activities.
The party commended the Osun Commissioner of Police for his intervention in maintaining peace and urged security agencies to enforce the governor’s directive that all NURTW factions should stay away from the motor parks.
“We commend the Commissioner of Police for his intervention to maintain peace, and we further charge him and other security agencies to enforce the directive of Mr Governor that all NURTW factions should vacate the motor parks,” Akande said.
It also called on security agencies to secure motor parks across the state to prevent any faction from attempting to take control of the facilities.
“The security agencies are also enjoined to immediately secure all the motor parks to prevent any factional takeover and nip in the bud another round of factional NURTW warfare in Osun State,” the statement added.
The fresh allegations followed reports that Asiri Eniba had announced his return to the NURTW headquarters in Osogbo despite the state government’s directive suspending union activities and ordering rival factions to vacate the parks.
