Residents of Osogbo, Osun State, have reportedly looted a warehouse linked to a food scheme that attracted customers with the promise of selling food items at significantly reduced prices.
InsightMedia reported that residents stormed the store on Monday after it was discovered that the scheme has crashed as no one was present to attend to customers who have deposited funds.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Odi-Olowo area of Osogbo, where residents reportedly stormed the warehouse after the operators of the scheme allegedly disappeared.
According to reports, the residents carted away items including bags of rice, vegetable oil and other food products from the warehouse.
The development followed Monday’s tension at the same premises, after customers who had paid in advance for food items arrived to collect their purchases but found the facility locked and the operators unreachable.
The scheme had reportedly offered items such as 50-kilogram bags of rice at about N27,000 significantly below prevailing market prices.
