Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a teenage herdsman, identified only as Mohammed, with one AK-47 rifle.
The suspect was arrested while hiding in a forest with the gun.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following information received by the Imeko Divisional Police Officer that two young Fulani herdsmen were seen with arms at the CAC Oha Forest, Iwoye-Ketu, in the Imeko-Afon Local Government Area.
He said, “Upon the information, the DPO quickly mobilised his men and other stakeholders, including hunters, vigilantes, So-Safe Corps, and stormed the said forest.
After hours of combing the forest, one Mohammed was seen hiding in the bush with one AK-47 rifle, and was promptly arrested.
The arrested armed boy is strongly suspected to be a member of kidnap syndicates who have been terrorising the area for quite some time now.
Oyeyemi said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
The Commissioner of Police also directed that the entire forest be properly combed with a view to apprehending other members of his gang,” he added.
