Following the rumour going round on social media that Osun State Government has concluded plans to revoke certificate of occupancy of Oranmiyan House, the campaign building owned by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola and demolish it, the government has reacted.
The Government in a statement by Funke Egbemode, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, asked residents of the state to ignore rumour, describing it as desperate falsehood.
The government insisted that the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is one that is committed to building and improving on what it inherited and transforming the fortunes of the state for good.
This followed allegations making the rounds that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola took a decision with his cabinet members at a meeting of the State Executive Council to revoke the certificate of occupancy of the Oranmiyan House, and subsequently demolish it.
The statement read in part: “The misinformation making the rounds about Governor Adegboyega Oyetola sitting in council to discuss plans to demolish the Oranmiyan House at the State Executive Council is both untrue and wicked, and a cheap propaganda from the quarters of drowning politicians grabbing at straws to stay afloat.
“Governor Oyetola is known in Osun and beyond as a fine gentleman, driven by the passion to make Osun better. He is a man who builds, he does not pull down.
“At no point was the idea mooted at the meeting of the Executive Council to revoke the certificate of occupancy of Oranmiyan House or to demolish the structure. Executive Council meetings are for serious matters of governance, issues that translate to greater values to the welfare and wellbeing of citizens.
“Governor Oyetola’s administration will not be distracted by the desperate falsehood and negative energy of frightened politicians who are working hard to create tension where none existed.
“The good people of Osun deserve development-oriented, progressive pieces of information at this time, not misleading details from those who have lost at every turn and desperate to stay relevant at all cost,” the statement read.
According to Egbemode, “This government will not be distracted by men trying to set innocent people of Osun on fire just to see if their lighters are working . They have failed before and will fail again. The people of Osun know their leaders and can separate them from dealers of untruths and peddlers of desperate falsehood. Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is known in Osun and beyond as a fine gentleman who is focused on impacting his people and the state.”
The statement urged all citizens and residents of the state to join hands with the state government to continue to improve the lives and economy of the people and ignore rabble-rousers fishing for cheap publicity.
“Let us discountenance the warped minds of frightened politicians who are afraid of their own shadows. They want to project their bad behaviours and ill-advised ways on to this government but it won’t work. There are things refined men do and sitting around and swigging drunken rumours is not one of them. “
