The proposed elections of Erin-Osun Progressives Union leadership slated for today has ended in deadlock even before it started due to crisis orchestrated by factions of the All Progressives Congress.

InsightMedia correspondent at the Erin-Osun township hall, the venue of the event gathered that no fewer that 1000 indigenes have been mobilised to the venue by the two political groups. The clash was over some positions that the two groups have fielded candidates.

Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yusuff Omoloye Oyagbodun led the prominent sons and daughters of the town to the venue and the hall was full as early as 10am in the morning.

Other notable sons of Erin-Osun sighted by InsightMedia are the outgoing President of EPU, Alh Hassan Alao; Special Adviser to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Environment and Sanitation, Rufus Oyegbile; Former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kolapo Alimi; Chairman of Irepodun South LCDA, Adekunle Oloyede, among others.

Crisis started when a member of one of the groups  was asked to address the gathering but started with political slogan of the ruling party.

In his address, the outgoing President, Hassan Alao appreciated every son and daughter of Erin-Osun for the support he received from all and sundry during his eight years tenure. He called on them to continue giving the support to the incoming administration.

He said his administration upon assumption of office in 2013 set out a six-point agenda and all were achieved through rigorous efforts of all the executive members.

According to him, the six-point agenda includes attainment of 80% completion of Erin-Osun hall, Youth empowerment/scholarship, Relationship among the branches, Relationship among citizens and Relationship among communities.

“On that of hall, we surpassed our target as the hall has reached 95% completions. We have also initiated a scholarship programme for brilliant students of Erin-Osun where we pay for their examination every year. This is meant to motivate them.

“In terms of community relationship, we have not only built good relationship among Erin-Osun indigenes home and abroad, we have also established an unprecedented cordial relationship with our neighboring communities, most especially Ilobu and Ifon. I initiated this and I have been able to galvanize people by visiting Presidents of their Unions at different times.”

Alao expressed disappointment over the turnout of event at the election ground, stating that he believes the BoT has the ability to steer the union through this turbulent time.

He had earlier informed the gathering at the hall that Erin-Osun Progressives Union has been duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. He presented the certificate to the Chairman of Board, Chief Moses Faniyi.

While speaking with InsightMedia, Chairman of EPU Electoral Committee, Adelani Aderinola described as worrisome and unfortunate the political infiltration of EPU.

The board of trustees has been charged with responsibility of administering the union for a minimum of three months after a motion was moved and seconded by those present at the meeting.
