One person has been reportedly liked and five others arrested after a violent clash erupted between supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State.

The incident happened on Friday when the PDP was conducting a governorship rally in Maigatari Local Government Area (LGA). As they arrived at the APC Secretariat, tensions rose and a clash broke out.

According to a police statement, the victim, “Abdullahi Isiyaku, a 37-year-old man from Gangare Quarters in Maigatari town, was attacked by members of the PDP’s ‘Santuraki Vanguard’. He was rushed to the Gumel General Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.”

A discreet investigation is underway at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse, the statement added.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Jigawa State Command DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam stated that the situation is under control and the police are working to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The incident has raised concerns about the security of citizens and the potential for further political tensions in the state.

The authorities are urging all political parties to refrain from using violence and to encourage their supporters to act peacefully. (NAN)
