President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to eradicating poverty across Africa, emphasizing the continent’s strides in democratic governance.
Speaking yesterday as a special guest at the inauguration of Ghana’s newly elected President, John Mahama, in Accra, Tinubu urged critics of Africa to acknowledge the progress made by nations like Nigeria and Ghana in promoting democracy.
He stated, “We celebrate African democracy today as Ghana transitions from one democratic government to another. This moment symbolizes not just progress for Ghana but for Africa as a whole. It is time for critics to stop questioning our capacity for democratic governance and recognize the strides we have made.”
Tinubu emphasized that Africa needs no external validation, declaring, “We have nothing to prove to anyone except ourselves. We have found the critical path to success. We shall lift our nations out of poverty and build resilient economies at our own pace.”
The Nigerian president expressed solidarity with Ghana and praised its democratic achievements, drawing parallels between Ghana’s legacy under Kwame Nkrumah and Nigeria’s founding leaders.
He noted the shared history and vision between the two nations, adding, “Today, I stand here not only as the President of Nigeria but as an African committed to Ghana’s progress and the unity of our continent.”
Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Tinubu stated, “Even when we disagree, we shall dialogue until we reach an agreement. Never shall we harm one another or allow outsiders to disrupt our unity. Together, we can tackle pressing issues such as poverty, youth unemployment, and instability.”
Tinubu extended his goodwill to President Mahama, describing him as a leader of “patriotic vision and substance.”
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for Ghana’s progress and called for renewed efforts towards regional integration.
The event celebrated not just a political transition but a reaffirmation of Africa’s potential for self-driven growth.
Tinubu’s speech underscored the collective aspirations of African nations to foster unity, prosperity, and democracy on their own terms.
