A 22-year-old man, Mr. Adewale Mustapha, has been apprehended by the Osun State Police Command on charges of raping a 3-year-old girl. The incident took place on July 25th, 2023, when the girl’s mother entrusted her care to Mustapha.
Yemisi Opalola, the Police Public Relations Officer, provided details during a briefing at the State Command in Osogbo, on Wednesday.
According to Opalola, the mother had left her young daughter at home under Mustapha’s supervision and returned around 3:20 pm on the same day.
“Shockingly, she discovered that the suspect had sexually assaulted her child. The victim was immediately taken to the Police Hospital for a medical examination and treatment.
Mustapha, in his statement to the press, admitted to the crime of rape, expressing confusion over his own actions.
He confessed, “While her mother entrusted her daughter to me, I cannot explain why I committed this act of rape. This was my first time, as I have never done anything like this before.”
Opalola assured the public that the police would spare no effort in bringing all criminals to justice.
She stated that after the investigation is complete, the suspect will face legal charges in court.
