The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old suspected leader of the Alora cult, Abiodun John, during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Akute/Olambe Road in the Ifo Local Government Area.

 

He was found in possession of an illegal firearm.

 

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to journalists on Friday.

 

According to Odutola, the suspect was apprehended on Thursday around 3:30 p.m. after officers received a tip-off from the public about suspicious activity involving John and an accomplice traveling in a Venza car with the dealer number URSMOT AUTOS 4657DLA.

 

Acting on the tip, officers from the Ajuwon Division quickly pursued and stopped the vehicle.

 

During the search, two locally-made pistols and three live cartridges were discovered in John’s possession.

 

The statement noted, “On January 9, 2025, at around 3:30 p.m., officers were conducting a lawful patrol and stop-and-search along the Akute/Olambe Road when they received information about two men inside a Venza car with dealer number URSMOT AUTOS 4657DLA.

 

The officers pursued the vehicle and stopped it in front of the Osaro Mobile Filling Station. One of the suspects, identified as Abiodun John, a 25-year-old from Olori, Akute, was arrested, while the second suspect remains at large.”

 

A preliminary investigation has begun, and John has been taken to the station with the recovered items.

 

The case will be forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further inquiry.
