Witnesses set to testify against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will do so behind a screen to protect their identities.

The decision was granted on Tuesday by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, following a request by the Federal Government’s legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Adegboyega Awomolo.

Awomolo filed an ex-parte motion citing security concerns and the sensitive nature of the terrorism-related charges against Kanu. He argued that shielding the witnesses was necessary to ensure their safety.

Justice Omotosho approved the request, ruling that the witnesses may testify from behind a screen during court proceedings.

Kanu is currently facing a seven-count terrorism charge. His lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), did not object to the application but urged the court to expect similar cooperation from the prosecution during his client’s upcoming bail hearing.

Shortly after the ruling, the Federal Government began presenting its case, calling its first witness, referred to as “PWAAA,” who has since commenced testimony.
