Reno Omokri, former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement follows a recent declaration by the leadership of the National Assembly and 22 state governors at an APC summit, naming Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the next election cycle.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, May 23, 2025, Omokri urged Nigerians to rally behind Tinubu’s administration, citing significant progress made under his leadership.
“On behalf of #RenosNuggeteers locally and globally, I wholeheartedly endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, God willing,” Omokri stated. “I urge all my supporters to stand with the Renewed Hope Agenda so we can unite and build a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.”
Omokri highlighted Tinubu’s fiscal management, noting a $14 billion reduction in the national debt—from $108.2 billion inherited from the Buhari administration in 2023 to $94.2 billion in 2025. He also praised the government for fully repaying Nigeria’s debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which has removed the country from its list of debtor nations.
On security, Omokri credited Tinubu with major improvements, asserting that over a dozen high-profile bandit leaders have been neutralized under his watch—contrasting it with what he described as inaction during Buhari’s presidency. “During Buhari’s tenure, no major bandit leader was brought to justice. Today, Nigeria is more secure and has moved from third to sixth on the Global Terror Index,” he said.
He further commended the administration for uninterrupted academic calendars in Nigerian universities and for progress on major infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, East-West Road, and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway.
Omokri’s endorsement also follows his first meeting with Tinubu in October 2024, since the president’s election in 2023.
