Former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has brushed off recent criticism from Daniel Bwala, asserting that he does not seek approval from individuals who frequently shift political loyalties to suit personal gain.
In a statement issued Tuesday by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku addressed remarks made by Bwala now a Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu during an appearance on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout. Bwala had accused Atiku of defying destiny and labeled his political coalition “dead on arrival.”
Atiku responded sharply, characterizing Bwala’s remarks as hollow moralizing from someone whose political stature is largely due to having once served as Atiku’s spokesperson.
According to the statement, Bwala’s latest comments signal a transparent effort to remain relevant within an administration faltering under growing public dissatisfaction an administration evidently unsettled by the expanding coalition led by Atiku and other reform-minded leaders.
“The Tinubu camp’s fixation on Atiku is revealing. If he’s irrelevant, why the relentless focus?” the statement questioned.
“Atiku remains the most resilient voice of opposition in Nigeria today, and the movement he leads is a serious counterweight to a faltering government.”
Reiterating his commitment, Atiku made clear that his agenda to restore and rebuild Nigeria will not be derailed by “political jesters pretending to be patriots.”
“Legacy is built on consistency and principle, not on the number of offices held,” the statement concluded. “Atiku’s role in Nigeria’s democratic journey is indelible and cannot be rewritten by opportunistic commentary.”
