The Nigerian Senate has formed an 18-member committee to oversee the activities of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the committee’s formation during Tuesday’s plenary session, stating that the move is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the state’s administration.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has been appointed as chairman of the committee.
Akpabio emphasized the significance of the committee’s role in ensuring robust legislative oversight in Rivers State. He also mentioned that the committee’s composition could be revised after further consultations.
He urged members to begin their oversight work immediately, citing the urgency of the task and reaffirming the Senate’s dedication to protecting democratic governance in the state.
The committee includes Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed from Jigawa State (APC), as well as the Clerk of the Senate.
