The Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde has officially renamed The Polytechnic Ibadan in honour of the late Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of the old Oyo State.
The announcement was made on Thursday during a state burial ceremony held in tribute to the late elder statesman.
According to Governor Makinde, the institution will now bear the name Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan, in recognition of his exceptional service and lasting impact on the state.
Dr. Olunloyo, who died a few weeks ago, was governor of the old Oyo State between October and December 1983. He holds the distinction of being the first Ibadan native to serve as governor and had also previously held the position of rector at the polytechnic now renamed in his honour.
Governor Makinde described the renaming as a fitting way to preserve the legacy of a man who contributed immensely to the development of Oyo State.
