Controversial Nigerian artist Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, has responded defiantly after being declared wanted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over allegations of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
In a statement posted Friday on its official Instagram page, @officialnaptip, the agency announced that Okoye is wanted and called on the public to provide any credible information about his whereabouts.
“Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, is wanted… Anyone with credible information on his whereabouts is urged to contact NAPTIP immediately,” the agency stated.
Reacting to the declaration, the musician dismissed the agency’s actions, claiming he is not concerned and that his legal team is addressing the issue.
“Thanks for the heads up, but I’m not worried. They have no right to declare me wanted… They just want to embarrass themselves,” he told Saturday Beats.
According to NAPTIP, the case stems from a viral Instagram Live video in which Okoye allegedly claimed to have had sex with a 15-year-old girl. He later described the statement as a publicity stunt meant to promote his music.
The agency said Okoye was initially summoned for questioning on May 30, 2025, but requested a postponement to June 26. However, he failed to appear.
A final notice was sent, giving him until June 2 to report to NAPTIP’s Abuja office, citing the seriousness and national importance of the allegations.
Public backlash has continued, with critics condemning the singer’s explanation that it was all a joke. Many argue that making light of child sexual abuse is both inappropriate and dangerous.
