Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has expressed his readiness to support any political arrangement whether within or outside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that will guarantee Nigeria’s peace, security, and stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Lamido made this known on Tuesday during an interaction with journalists in Kano, reaffirming his commitment to the unity and progress of the country.

“I believe in Nigeria,” Lamido stated. “So, any arrangement whether within or outside the PDP that will secure and save Nigeria, I am willing to work with it come 2027.”

Addressing recent speculation about his alleged defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Lamido dismissed the rumours, emphasizing his continued loyalty to the PDP.

“I am still in the PDP. Yes, the party has its challenges, but I cannot deny my political journey. I cannot shed my skin and put on a smaller one called ADC. That’s not who I am,” he said.

He further noted that the PDP had entrusted him with significant responsibilities, including his appointments as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Governor of Jigawa State, adding that he could not abandon the party that shaped his political career.

“I cannot renounce my history, legacy, and heritage in the PDP for something new. I’m not leaving the party,” Lamido affirmed.

On the growing calls for the creation of additional states, Lamido acknowledged the legitimacy of the demands but questioned their relevance in solving Nigeria’s core issues.

“Creating new states won’t solve our problems—whether it’s insecurity, poverty, hunger, or the growing divide between the North and the South,” he said. “There are more urgent matters that require our attention.”

Speaking on the recent visit of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Lamido said the former Kano State governor had the right to engage with any political leader as he deemed fit.
