The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State received a boost ahead of the 2026 governorship election as defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP) formally joined its ranks.
The defection took place in Itapa Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area, in support of Adeyinka Alli, a former banker who declared his bid for the governorship under the ADC platform.
Alli, addressing supporters and party officials, stated his intention to provide the leadership and developmental change the state urgently needs.
He criticised the current administration for mismanaging resources, neglecting infrastructure, and focusing on what he described as non-priority projects and political appointments.
According to him, the economic state of Ekiti is “comatose,” with poor roads and misplaced government priorities.
He promised to focus on redefining education, boosting agriculture for food security, and harnessing the state’s natural resources particularly its vast rock formations for tourism and industrial development.
Alli emphasized that Ekiti’s wealth lies in its people and untapped natural assets, which he pledged to leverage if elected.
Welcoming the defectors, ADC State Deputy Chairman Dare Adekolu and State Chairman Omolayo Ilesanmi assured them of inclusion in the party’s mission to reposition Ekiti.
Ilesanmi praised Alli’s leadership qualities, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the state and urged citizens to support the ADC as a viable alternative to the current political establishment.
