The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has explained the reason behind the “No Result Yet” notifications being received by some candidates, revealing that results of underage applicants are being deliberately withheld in line with its admission guidelines.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said the move follows a surge of enquiries from concerned parents and candidates. He clarified that individuals who fall below the approved age requirement will not have their results released for now, which is why the system generates the “No Result Yet” message.
According to the board, only candidates who will be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, are eligible to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Any candidate who does not meet this requirement is considered under the exceptional category.
Benjamin explained that underage candidates seeking special consideration must demonstrate outstanding academic performance. This includes scoring a minimum of 320 in the UTME and achieving at least 80 per cent in subsequent screening exercises.
He added that, based on prior agreements with parents, only candidates who meet the 320 benchmark will be shortlisted and invited for further assessments, significantly limiting the number of underage applicants who may eventually qualify for admission.
JAMB maintained that results of underage candidates will remain withheld until the screening process is completed, urging stakeholders to remain patient as the board enforces measures aimed at protecting the credibility and standards of Nigeria’s admission system.
