The lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has formally entered the 2027 Ogun State governorship race after obtaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination forms.
The forms, reportedly worth N50 million, were collected on his behalf on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, signalling his intention to contest for the state’s top seat under the All Progressives Congress.
The APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, presented both the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to Adeola’s representative, officially marking his entry into the race.
Adeola’s move comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.
INEC has also fixed April 23 to May 30, 2026, for political parties to conduct their primaries and resolve any internal disputes arising from the process.
Campaign activities are expected to kick off later in the year, with presidential and National Assembly campaigns starting on August 19, 2026, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will begin on September 9, 2026.
Adeola’s entrance into the contest is likely to intensify the political landscape in Ogun State, as more aspirants are expected to declare their interest in the coming weeks.
