The Osun State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) in has strongly criticised a member of the House of Representatives, Bamidele Salam, describing him as a “frustrated politician” following his recent comments on national and state political figures.
Salam, who represents Ede-North/Ede-South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, had appeared on Channels Television on Wednesday, where he made remarks considered by the APC as derogatory towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026 election, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), and the Director-General of its campaign council, Wole Oke.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party faulted Salam for describing Oyebamiji as “weak,” insisting that the APC candidate remains a strong and capable contender in the forthcoming governorship election.
The party alleged that Salam’s comments were influenced by internal challenges within the Accord Party and what it described as dissatisfaction with the leadership of its governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke.
According to the APC, Salam’s outburst reflects political anxiety ahead of the election, suggesting that fears of defeat may be driving what it termed “ill-informed and reckless statements.” The party further argued that the lawmaker’s criticisms were misplaced and rooted in partisan considerations.
The statement also defended the appointment of Wole Oke as Director-General of the APC governorship campaign, noting that his emergence has unsettled opposition figures. It dismissed concerns raised over the transfer of a Resident Electoral Commissioner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing such actions as routine administrative decisions.
On allegations circulating about possible electoral malpractice involving the transfer, the APC claimed there were insinuations of financial inducement but provided no evidence, urging the public to remain cautious of unverified claims.
The party further rejected comparisons made by Salam between President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke, maintaining that both leaders operate on different levels and should not be equated.
Reaffirming confidence in its candidate, the APC stated that Oyebamiji has remained focused and committed to securing victory, contrasting this with what it described as a lack of seriousness on the part of the opposition.
The party concluded by expressing optimism about its chances in the August governorship election, insisting that no amount of criticism from political opponents would alter what it described as an impending victory at the polls.
