Prominent activist and co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has dismissed Presidential Adviser on Media, Daniel Bwala, saying he does not deserve engagement from what she described as serious-minded Nigerians.

Yesufu made the comments on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where she responded to recent statements by Bwala targeting opposition politicians.

She said she would not react to his comments, instead suggesting that he be engaged by international journalist Mehdi Hasan, who had previously interviewed him.

“First of all, there’s no right thinking Nigerian that is going to waste their energy on discussing Daniel Bwala.

“I’m really not going to focus on that. I heard when he was calling my name. I think I will leave him with Mehdi Hasan. That’s someone that knows how to deal with people like Daniel Bwala,” she said.

Her remarks referenced Bwala’s appearance on Al Jazeera’s Head to Head programme aired on March 6, 2026, where he was confronted by host Mehdi Hasan with past criticisms he made against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before joining his administration as a defender of the “Renewed Hope” agenda.

Yesufu also defended Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who has faced criticism from Bwala, arguing that remaining in opposition should not be seen as a political weakness.

She pointed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s own political journey, noting his years in opposition politics before his party eventually gained power in 2015.

“Even Mr Tinubu that he talked about, he has been in opposition… he stayed in opposition until he was able to get into office,” she said, while acknowledging his transitions through different political platforms over the years.

Yesufu, however, maintained that her focus is on governance rather than political exchanges with government spokespersons.

“My focus really is on the question that is going to move Nigeria forward. I’m not going to waste my time discussing anything that Daniel Bwala says. Nobody thinks Daniel Bwala is serious,” she added.
