All Progressives Congress has announced the disqualification of 47 aspirants from its senatorial primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party made the disclosure on Monday through a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, following the completion of its screening exercise for Senate hopefuls across the country.

According to the APC, the screening was carried out by designated committees in line with the party’s established rules and procedures. However, no specific reasons were given for the failure of the affected aspirants to secure clearance.

Among the prominent names on the list is Ben Murray-Bruce, who sought to return to the Senate to represent Bayelsa East Senatorial District. Also disqualified from the same district was Benson Agadaga.

The party’s list showed that Rivers State recorded one of the highest numbers of disqualified aspirants, particularly in the Rivers West senatorial district, where four contenders were screened out. They include Oyukaye Flag Amachree, Tamunobaabo Wemike Danagogo, Jack-Rich Tein, and Banigo Ipalibo.

Zamfara State had the highest overall number, with seven aspirants from its Central, North, and West senatorial districts failing to make the final list of cleared contestants.

Other states affected include Adamawa State, Anambra State, Cross River State, Delta State, Kwara State, Oyo State, Plateau State, Taraba State and Yobe State.

The development comes as the ruling party intensifies preparations for its internal primaries, which will determine candidates for the National Assembly elections in 2027.

The APC has yet to indicate whether the affected aspirants will have an opportunity to appeal the decision or seek further review from the party’s leadership.
