Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 60-year-old man, Musa Garba, over the alleged defilement of a nine-year-old girl in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area.
The spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday.
According to the statement, the case was reported at the Toro Divisional Police Headquarters on May 8, 2026, by the victim’s 47-year-old father.
Habib explained that the complainant alleged that the suspect lured his daughter into a hideout on May 7 at about 4pm, where the offence was allegedly committed.
“The report was received at the Toro Division on 8th May 2026. The father of the victim reported that his daughter was lured into a hideout on 7th May 2026 at about 1600hrs by one Musa Garba, also of the same address,” the statement read.
The police spokesperson said detectives attached to the division swiftly arrested the suspect following the complaint.
He added that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime and admitted to committing similar acts against the victim on several occasions at different locations.
According to Habib, both the victim and the suspect were taken to the General Hospital in Toro for medical examination and treatment.
He further revealed that the victim also accused another suspect, identified only as Nafi’u, whose surname is yet to be confirmed, of involvement in a separate incident. The suspect is currently on the run.
“The arrested suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” Habib stated.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident and reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on crimes involving children and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.
He also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
“The Command assures the public that justice will be pursued diligently and in line with due process,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Special Area Rumudomaya Police Division in Rivers State recently arrested a man identified simply as Mr Goodnews for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter.
- The incident reportedly occurred on May 4, 2026, after the suspect allegedly lured the teenager into his apartment under the pretext of sending her on an errand.
