Manchester United have confirmed former midfielder Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent manager after he agreed to a long-term contract.

The decision, which had been under discussion for several weeks, was finalised on Friday after receiving approval from key figures at the club, including minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and senior executives. Reports indicate Carrick will sign an initial two-year deal, with an option to extend for a further year depending on performance.

Carrick had been serving in an interim role following changes in the club’s coaching setup but earned the permanent appointment after overseeing an impressive run of results that restored confidence within the team and the management. His success in guiding the club back into a strong league position reportedly convinced the board to hand him the role on a full-time basis.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on Friday, saying the club’s direction had been clear for weeks and that Carrick had accepted the offer without hesitation.

Speaking ahead of United’s final home game against Nottingham Forest, Carrick said he plans to address supporters at Old Trafford after the match, following a tradition once observed by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

He also confirmed that Casemiro will be available for what is expected to be the midfielder’s farewell appearance at the stadium.

According to Carrick, the fans played a major role in supporting the team through the season and deserved appreciation.

“The supporters are a massive part of this club. We thank them for the season and for the connection they have built with the players. It’s important for me to thank the fans for that,” he said.
