Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has declared that he would serve only one term of four years if elected president, stressing that nothing would make him remain in office beyond that period.
Obi made the statement in a clip from an interview scheduled to air on News Central TV on Thursday.
According to him, his decision to serve a single term is driven by the need to ensure stability in the country.
“I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day, with a gun to my head, longer than four years,” Obi said in the viral interview clip.
The former governor of Anambra State also faulted the economic policies of the current administration, particularly issues relating to borrowing and the rising cost of living, saying the country is facing one of its toughest economic moments.
Obi was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, where he finished behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Since the election, Obi has remained one of the leading opposition voices, often criticising the Tinubu administration over its economic reforms and policies.
