No fewer than 16 members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigerian Democratic Congress, citing internal crises within their former party.

The defections were officially announced during Tuesday’s plenary session in the Green Chamber by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.

According to the lawmakers, their decision to leave the African Democratic Congress was driven by what they described as “unresolved crises” that have continued to affect the party’s stability.

Among those who switched allegiance to the Nigerian Democratic Congress are Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, and Munachim Umezuruike.

Others include Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.

The development marks another shift in the political landscape of the House, as party realignments continue ahead of future electoral activities.
