President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose tenure is expected to end on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, is recognised for his expertise in digital infrastructure, national examination systems, and institutional reforms.
According to the Presidency, the academic, who turns 40 in July, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering and will become the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB.
The statement highlighted Aina’s academic background, noting that he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent. He also earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, alongside a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
He additionally completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The Presidency said Aina has more than 15 years of experience advising both federal and state governments on digital transformation, system design, and public-sector reforms.
He has also reportedly worked with examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board as a consultant on ICT systems and examination integrity.
The statement further noted that the new registrar belongs to several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would consolidate on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership and further strengthen the operations of the examination body.
