Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has claimed that some artistes in the country’s music industry resort to voodoo in their quest for hit songs.
The rapper made the allegation during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where he spoke about the difficulty of producing commercially successful songs and the pressure artistes face to remain relevant.
According to him, scoring a hit is not an easy achievement, noting that some musicians go through their entire careers without recording a song that gains widespread acceptance.
He suggested that the struggle for musical success could push some artistes to seek spiritual assistance, popularly described as “jazz” in local parlance.
“Getting a hit song is not easy. Sometimes people even do jazz to get one. That is why you see some artists crashing out when they struggle to get a hit,” he said.
Odumodublvck also praised music stars Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido for their ability to consistently release hit songs over the years, describing their achievements as worthy of respect.
“Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido have been dropping hit songs consistently for years.
“You have to respect that. Some artistes never get a hit song throughout their careers,” he added.
The rapper’s comments have brought attention to the intense competition in Nigeria’s music industry, where commercial success, streaming numbers and public acceptance often shape artistes’ popularity and career prospects.
However, his allegation about the use of voodoo was not accompanied by the identification of any artiste or specific evidence.
