Friends of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, have called on the Ogun State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The appeal was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Friends of Kitan Oyesiku and signed by Oluwaseun Boye on behalf of the group.
The demand follows the tragic discovery of Oyesiku and her security guard dead at her residence in Iyana Agodo Village, Ogun State, last week.
The Ogun State Police Command had earlier launched an investigation into the incident after residents reportedly raised concerns over suspicious activities around the deceased’s residence.
Police detectives who visited the scene reportedly found evidence suggesting forced entry into the property. While the body of the security guard was discovered at the security post, Oyesiku’s remains were later found inside the apartment.
Investigators also recovered the deceased’s Lexus RX300 vehicle, which had initially been reported missing.
Describing Oyesiku as a gentle and compassionate individual, the group expressed deep sorrow over her death, saying her life was cut short in a cruel and tragic manner.
“Kitan was a peaceful, kind-hearted and compassionate woman whose life was cut short in a cruel and senseless manner. She did not deserve such a painful end. Her death has left her family, friends and everyone who knew her devastated,” the statement said.
While commending the Ogun State Police Command for its efforts so far, the group urged authorities to ensure that the case is thoroughly investigated and not abandoned.
“We commend the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, and officers of the Ogun State Police Command for the steps taken so far in the investigation. We appreciate their commitment and encourage them to sustain the momentum until every individual connected with this heinous crime is identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Boye stated.
The group further appealed to the Ogun State Government and relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.
“We respectfully appeal to the Ogun State Government and all relevant authorities not to allow Kitan’s murder to be swept under the carpet. Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done. Bringing the perpetrators to justice will reassure the public that no life is insignificant and that crimes of this nature will not go unpunished,” the statement added.
The deceased’s friends also called on members of the public to support investigators by providing any information that could assist ongoing efforts to solve the case.
“We also renew our appeal to members of the public: if you know something, please say something. Any credible information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could provide the breakthrough investigators need to ensure justice for Kitan,” Boye said.
The group expressed confidence that the truth behind the killings would eventually emerge and that those responsible would be held accountable.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command disclosed on Monday that Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni had visited the scene of the incident and assured residents that significant progress was being made in the investigation. The command added that all available resources were being deployed to track down those behind the killings.
