The Redeemed Christian Church of God has firmly denied claims that its General Overseer, Enoch Adeboye, has endorsed any political party or government, insisting that the respected cleric remains politically neutral.
In a statement released on Tuesday through its official public relations platform on X, the church expressed concern over what it described as years of misinformation, false narratives, and deliberate misrepresentations surrounding both Pastor Adeboye and the RCCG.
According to the church, inaccurate reports and commentaries driven by personal interests have continued to circulate in the public space, prompting the denomination to publicly set the record straight.
“The falsehoods have persisted for too long,” the church stated, adding that it would no longer remain silent while misleading information about its leader and activities is presented as fact.
RCCG stressed that any information concerning Pastor Adeboye or the church should be verified through its official communication channels before being accepted or published.
The church also criticized some bloggers, commentators, and media outlets for attributing unverified political positions and statements to its General Overseer, particularly on matters relating to governance and national politics.
Addressing allegations that Pastor Adeboye had openly campaigned for a political party or government, RCCG described the claims as false. The church maintained that the cleric has consistently encouraged members to participate in the democratic process without directing them toward any candidate or political platform.
According to the statement, Pastor Adeboye has always advised Christians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and exercise their civic rights by voting according to their convictions.
The church emphasized that RCCG members belong to different political parties, making it inappropriate for the church to endorse any particular political group.
RCCG also clarified reports suggesting that Pastor Adeboye had called off a planned protest. It explained that he merely relayed a directive issued by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria regarding adjustments to a nationwide three-day prayer programme.
The church noted that the PFN had instructed participating churches to hold the grand finale of the programme at centralized venues and organize prayer rallies around those locations, a directive that Pastor Adeboye simply communicated to RCCG members.
Furthermore, RCCG dismissed suggestions that its leader has remained silent on critical national issues. The church pointed out that Pastor Adeboye has repeatedly spoken on matters such as insecurity, corruption, elections, economic hardship, governance, and the need for ethical leadership.
However, it explained that his approach has traditionally focused on moral guidance, prayer, and counsel rather than partisan political engagement.
The church also urged journalists and media practitioners to uphold professional standards by verifying information before publication. It called on the public to rely on official RCCG communication platforms when seeking clarification on statements attributed to the church or its leader.
RCCG stressed that the public deserves accurate information and warned against the spread of speculation and unverified claims.
The statement comes amid ongoing debates about the role of influential religious leaders in Nigeria’s political landscape. As one of the country’s largest Pentecostal denominations, RCCG and Pastor Adeboye have frequently attracted public attention whenever issues of governance, elections, and national development arise.
While Pastor Adeboye has often offered prayers and comments on national matters, the church reiterated that he has consistently maintained a non-partisan position and has never aligned RCCG with any political party. The latest clarification, it said, is aimed at combating misinformation and ensuring that public discussions about the church are based on verified facts rather than assumptions.
