The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has entered a new era following the formal handover by Prof. Is-haq Oloyede to his successor, Prof. Segun Aina, after a decade of transformative leadership at Nigeria’s tertiary admissions agency.
Oloyede officially handed over the reins on Friday, bringing to an end 10 years marked by sweeping reforms that restored public confidence in JAMB, strengthened examination integrity, embraced technology and significantly improved transparency in the nation’s admission process.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier approved the appointment of Aina as the new Registrar of JAMB, expressing confidence that he would consolidate on the achievements recorded under Oloyede while driving further innovation within the examination body.
The appointment was announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is widely recognised for his expertise in digital infrastructure, examination systems and institutional reforms.
His appointment is expected to usher in a new phase of technology-driven improvements at JAMB, building on the digital transformation initiated during Oloyede’s tenure.
The Presidency described the incoming registrar as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and noted that he would become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
According to the Presidency, Aina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
He brings more than 15 years of experience in advising federal and state governments on digital transformation, systems design and institutional reforms.
Beyond academia, Aina has served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), where he contributed to improving ICT systems and safeguarding examination integrity.
His extensive background in technology and educational assessment is expected to strengthen JAMB’s commitment to transparent, credible and technology-driven admission processes.
During his decade-long tenure, Oloyede was widely credited with repositioning JAMB through reforms that improved operational efficiency, increased remittances to the Federal Government, curbed examination malpractice and enhanced public trust in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Under his leadership, the Board expanded the use of digital technology, improved candidate verification systems and introduced measures aimed at making admissions more transparent and merit-driven.
With Aina now at the helm, stakeholders expect the Board to deepen its digital transformation agenda, improve service delivery and sustain the reforms that have made JAMB one of Nigeria’s most improved public institutions.
