The Kano State Government has attributed the payment of duplicate July 2026 salaries to some civil servants to a technical glitch, assuring workers that steps are already being taken to recover the excess funds.
The clarification was contained in a circular dated July 26, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Director of the Kano Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (KIPPIS), Abdulhadi Hamza, on behalf of the State Accountant General.
According to the government, the error occurred during the salary payment process due to a technical issue involving the bank handling the disbursement.
The circular stated that the bank has begun reversing the duplicate payments directly from the accounts of affected workers.
It advised civil servants who received the extra salary not to take any action for now, stressing that they should await further instructions from the Office of the Accountant General.
“The concerned bank is currently making efforts to reverse the duplicate payments directly from the affected accounts. In view of this, all affected staff are kindly advised not to take any action at this time and to await further directives from the Office of the Accountant General,” the notice read.
The government added that if the bank is unable to recover the excess payments through the reversal process, affected workers will be officially contacted and guided on the appropriate procedure for refunding the overpaid amount.
The Office of the Accountant General appealed to civil servants for patience and cooperation while efforts are ongoing to resolve the payroll error.
